The Spiritual Lives of Teachers
Dr. June Hetzel, Dean, School of Education, Biola University

In May 2013, PreK-12 teachers in 38 countries participated in a study entitled “The Spiritual Lives of Christian Teachers” (Hetzel & Costillo). The central question of the survey was, “What does the spiritual life of a Christian teacher look like?” Themes that emerged were the centrality of one’s relationship and dependence upon God in teaching, dispositions of the Spirit, and relational harmony reflective of life in the Spirit. In this session, we will explore the spiritual landscape of the classroom through the eyes of 1,509 front line global educators and glean implications about our own teaching practice in the Southern California context.
